Elementary Recognition Night with Holland Basketball: Come join us on Friday, February 16 for elementary recognition night!

  • All HPS elementary students and their family members will get into our basketball games for FREE! (Students must be accompanied by an adult.)

We have limited spots available in our HPS preschool program for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.   

  • Children must have turned 4-years-old on or before December 1, 2023 to be age eligible. 
  • Any family regardless of income now qualifies! (Families over 401% of the Federal Poverty Line will only have to pay $25 for preschool through the Great Start Readiness Program for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year.)

Holland Little League is excited to offer baseball and softball for kids ages 5 through 12. Get your child outside this spring and on a team. Abbey Koessel receives Teachers Live Here grant.

West Teacher Abbey Koessel is the latest recipient of the $25,700 Teachers Live Here grant. The grant will assist Abbey and her husband Nick (a counselor at HMS) with the down payment on a home.  They are looking for a home within the HPS school district lines. Teachers who purchase a home within the school district using the grant are awarded an additional $2500 to assist with closing costs.

100 HPS Employees Receive CPR and AED Training

Thank you to HDPS Firefighter/EMT Angela Lound for training HPS Bus Drivers in CPR and how to use an AED, helping Holland become a Heart Safe Community!

To date, 100 HPS staff members have receive the training! Training will continued to be offered to staff members AND to students in the future!

  • HPS is working toward becoming a Heart Safe district. Which means that each building will have at least 10% of staff trained in CPR.

Congratulations to HMS 8th Grade Band students, Simon Ozimek and Caelen Gray. Simon and Caelen were nominated and selected for Western Michigan University Honors Band where they rehearsed and performed under the direction of world-renowned composer, conductor, and music educator, Brian Balmages!

Legg Finishes 13th at State Swim Meet.

  • Holland’s Natalie Legg placed 13th overall in the 100 backstroke with a season best time of 1:00.16.
  • The 200 freestyle relay team of Legg, Nora Frens, Thy Tran and Miriam Lopez-Koolhaas swam a season best time in prelims of 1:44.84.
  • The Medley Relay team of Legg, Abby VanIngen, Tran, and Lopez-Koolhaas competed in preliminaries, but did not make it into the finals on Saturday.

HDPS-Fire Safety Provides FREE First-Aid and CPR Training for Teachers & Staff

The Holland Department of Public Safety has trained 83 teachers and staff from HPS in CPR and First- Aid - free of charge to the district!

HHS Theatre and Be Nice present Mean Girls

Mean Girls is a musical based on the popular 2004 movie. It’s about Cady Heron, a teenager who moves from Africa to Illinois and enters a new high school. As she tries to fit in and climb the popularity ladder, she learns important lessons about friendship, authenticity, and the consequences of her actions. This musical explores the challenges of teenage life and the importance of staying true to oneself.

The 86th Annual Veteran's Day Assembly is open to the public on Friday, November 10 at 10am in the DutchDome. Veterans and their families are welcome to join HHS Administrators for a luncheon following the assembly in the PAC Lobby.

 

HHS Band Finishes 5th at MCBA State Competition

The HHS Marching Band finished 5th in Flight 3 of the MCBA (Michigan Competing Band Association) State competition on Saturday at Ford Field.  It was the band's first year in MCBA.

The HHS Marching Band has grown tremendously as a family this season, and, as a result, has been more successful than ever, not only in a quantitative, but also a qualitative way that is immeasurable and invaluable. -Director Bethany VanOss

Land Acknowledgment: Acknowledging place and honoring people.

Holland Public Schools would like to acknowledge that our community and our schools are built on the beautiful ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe people, the People of the Three fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi.

We are, therefore, guests on this land and are grateful for the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations.

    • Meet at the Devos Fieldhouse at 5pm

HHS students earn National Recognition Awards

In August, College Board awarded thousands of students from across the country with academic honors through our annual National Recognition Programs. The programs celebrate underrepresented students who excel academically on College Board assessments, including PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, and AP® exams.

High-achieving students from all 50 states and U.S. territories were eligible to apply. These student earned this academic honor because of their GPA of 3.5 or higher and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, and/or AP® Exams. They can now list this honor on applications to stand out to colleges. Students can include this academic honor on their college applications, and many colleges intentionally recruit awardees through College Board’s Student Search Service™. 

 

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are a great opportunity to:

  • share academic progress and growth based on classroom observations, testing data, assessments, portfolios, and assignments
  • learn from parents or guardians so teachers can be better informed about students' strengths, needs, behaviors, and learning styles
  • discuss enrichment or intervention strategies to support students' learning
  • discuss issues that may be interfering with students' learning and growth

At HHS and HMS, Conferences appointments are walk-in during listed days/hours. Parents of K-5 students can schedule an appointment time at the links below.

WOODTV Football Frenzy Food Drive

The Football Frenzy Team will visit Holland High on Friday, September 22 - the day of our Hispanic Heritage Month Football game!

As a part of their visit, HPS students from all buildings are being asked to participate in a Food Drive to benefit Feeding America!

  • Every student who donates 5 items will get a FREE ticket to the football game (K-8 students will also receive a ticket for an adult.)

Parent/Family Nights are designed to engage and educate families about ways to support and advocate for their children at Holland Public Schools.
