be nice.: Join the be nice club this Saturday at the 9th annual Love and Lean Walk/Run to support mental health awareness and the be nice organization. This annual event is inspired by the loss of Zach Kroll, a sophomore at Zeeland East, who silently suffered from depression and died by suicide in 2015 at the age of 15. Zach’s family and friends desire to use this awareness event to reach out to others and make a positive impact in the community. Sign up for either the 1.5 mile walk or the 5k run using this link: https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/Zeeland/LoveLeanWalkforMentalHealth

National Art Honor Society: Attention National Art Honor Society students! Our year-end celebration is happening TODAY after school in Mrs. Sligh's room. We will celebrate our SENIORS and officially WELCOME our newest members!  This is a DESSERT POTLUCK, so bring a sweet treat to share, and we'll vote for the most CREATIVE DESSERT!

Women's Soccer: Holland visited conference rival Holland Christian on Wednesday night and fell 3-0. Holland gave up one corner kick goal in the first half and two goals in the second. "Holland Christian has many quick, athletic players," said Holland coach Greg Ceithaml. "We defended well and I am really proud of our defensive players and our goalie. We have to find a way to possess the ball better to give ourselves some better scoring opportunities and rest for our defenders." Holland is now 2-5.

Women's Tennis: Holland traveled to Zeeland East on Wednesday. The Dutch fell by a score of 7-1. Earning Holland's lone point was #1 singles player, Ahava LeFebre (6-0, 6-3). "While today did not go the way we wanted, we know we will bounce back," said Holland coach Kyle Kreps. Holland travels to Jenison on Saturday for a tournament.

Women's Track and Field: Holland lost to Spring Lake 107-30 and lost to Unity Christian 117-20 on the first warm afternoon this season. Men's Volleyball: Holland High men’s volleyball team had a great night of league competition last night. After dropping a match to Spring Lake, the Holland High Spikers were able to defeat Reeths-Puffer for our first league win. We finished the night with a close 2-1 loss to West Ottawa, but played strong throughout the match. Many great performances were had last night as everyone showed improvement. The Holland High Spikers will head to Cornerstone University this Saturday for their first tournament of the season. Go Dutch!!!

Word of the Day

Ostensible is used to describe something that seems or is said to be true or real, but is possibly not true or real. In other words, it is plausible rather than demonstrably true or real.

The ostensible purpose of a filibuster is to extend debate, but in reality, it is used to delay or prevent action.
