West February Newsletter #2

Dear West Families,

Welcome to Inclusion Week. This week we celebrate the many differences that make us each special and unique! Learn more about Inclusion Week by watching this special video: Inclusion Week Video. Part of celebrating Inclusion Week is participating in fun district-wide dress-up days:

  • Monday: Rock Your Socks Day

  • Tuesday: Be on the Team– Wear your favorite team’s jersey

  • Wednesday: Dress Your Interest– Wear a shirt with your favorite things: Dinos, horses, etc.

  • Thursday: Sensory Day– Wear something that appeals to the senses, or is sensory friendly: soft clothing, glittery shirt, etc.

  • Friday: School Spirit– Wear Red and White!

Did you know, West students are showing excellent progress in Reading and Math and are outpacing the national average! To measure this, students take the NWEA MAP Growth assessment three times a year. This nationwide test takes less than an hour per subject and allows us to see how our students' progress stacks up against millions of others across the U.S.

Fall 2025 to Winter 2026

In Math, West students achieved the 64th percentile for growth in Math, meaning they are progressing faster than nearly two-thirds of similar schools nationwide.

In Reading, West reached the 71st percentile for growth, meaning our students improved more than those in 71% of similar schools nationwide and are making excellent, above-average progress.

Go West!

Please contact our administrative team with any questions or concerns!

Warmly,

Chad Tolson, Principal

Jennifer Heinritz, Assistant Principal

This Week’s PBIS Focus Lesson

This week we will be reviewing the routine and expectations for riding the bus. It is very important for students to have excellent bus behavior because of the focus the drivers need to have. If your child rides the bus, please take a few minutes to review bus expectations (included in the Monday, February 9 announcements).

Hot Chocolate Bar

Thank you for all of the generous support we have received for the hot chocolate Bar. The students LOVED it!! Check out some photos on our Facebook page.

Girls on the Run and Total Trek Quest

Registration for Girls on the Run and Total Trek Quest teams has begun! TTQ is a program for 3-5th grade boys. TTQ lasts for 9 weeks and ends with a celebration 5K run. Both GOTR and TTQ help students build confidence and self-esteem, teach about how to be a good friend, and teach important life skills. Finances should never be a barrier, so there are scholarships available. Teams meet two days per week after school.
