West February News #4

Dear West Families,

As the month of February closes out, we would like to give a great big WE LOVE YOU to all of our West students and families! Thank you for supporting our amazing school!

Coming up. . . March is READING MONTH!! Save the Date for Thursday, March 12, 5-7pm, for our West Parent Reading Night! Also, in March there is CRAZY weather! Please continue to send your student(s) with everything needed to stay warm and dry in cold and wet weather: A winter coat, snow pants, boots, gloves and a hat.

As Spring Fever builds, we need help reminding our West students about school expectations. Please review our West POWER expectations with your child(ren). POWER stands for Pride, Own Your Actions, Wise Choices, Engaged, and Respect. Can your child(ren) explain how to have POWER in each school setting (bathroom, playground, cafeteria, etc.)?

As always, please contact our administrative team with any questions or concerns!

Warmly,

Chad Tolson, Principal

Jennifer Heinritz, Assistant Principal

This Week’s PBIS Focus Lesson

This week we will be reviewing the routine and expectations for the bathroom. Washing hands is so important to prevent the spread of illness. Help us by reminding your student(s) to wash their hands after each bathroom visit.

(Bathroom expectations are included in the Monday, February 23 announcements).

Word of the Week

Each Monday, in the announcements, students are introduced to a new vocabulary word and given examples of how to use the word. Through the week, the announcements will sneak in the work as often as possible! This week’s word is IDENTIFY. Help your student(s) by talking about the word, using the word and encouraging your child to use the word.

Hope College Family Math Festival

Total Trek Quest

TTQ is back at West this year for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade boys. The TTQ team will be meeting after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:36 pm- 5:00pm. We currently have 13 spots open for more students to sign-up. There are also scholarships available based on need. Use this link to register: https://www.pinwheel.us/register/index/AOSPRING26

Important Pick-Up Reminders:

Please help us keep students safe and traffic moving during Pick-Up by remembering the following:

  • Use the front circle for pick-up only. If you need to park your vehicle, please park in the lot and walk up to the building.

  • Pull your vehicle as far forward as possible, leaving little space between cars

  • Leave the front circle as soon as your student(s) is buckled and it is safe to drive

  • PLEASE DO NOT motion students to the middle lane of the circle to get into your vehicle! This is unsafe.

  • Talk with you student(s) about watching for your vehicle and getting into the vehicle as quickly as possible to avoid delays.

Thank you all for your patience and help to make the end of the day go smoothly!
