The School Breakfast Program was first piloted in 1966 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ensure that children, especially those from low-income families, started the day with a nutritious meal. Made permanent in 1975, the program has grown to provide millions of students from all backgrounds nationwide with breakfast at school, improving both health and academic performance. Over the years, schools have innovated with menus, taste tests, and creative marketing to increase participation, recognizing that offering appealing, balanced meals is key to student success. By building on this history, our district can implement strategies that encourage more students to enjoy healthy meals daily, supporting both learning and well-being.
