HHS: Week 1 review & Week 2 info

It was a great start to the school year! Read more for a review of Week 1. Plus, get a preview of what's to store in Week 2.
LOOKING BACK
It was fantastic welcoming students back to school this week, and we had a great first three days! View photos from the start of school at Smugmug. During the first few days, we reviewed school procedures and policies, while also highlighting our school values represented in D.U.T.C.H. (Diverse, United, Thrive, Committed, Honorable). Parents are welcome to view the following slideshows that students viewed in class:
- Day 1 School Procedures
- Top 8 School Board Policies (all policies are available to you - click HERE to navigate there)
- Day 3 D.U.T.C.H. Overview and Spotlights
Thank you for reviewing the importance of each of these elements. Two important items to reinforce - First, the cell phone policy: We are a “no cell, bell to bell” school. This means cell phones/devices need to be put away before the class start bell rings and not used until the end of class bell. Second, the importance of attendance. Being on time and in class is one of the most important indicators of success in school. You can check Parent Portal any time regarding your child’s attendance. Please call school (616-494-2200) when you need to excuse an absence or inform us of an appointment.
LOOKING AHEAD
We look forward to a continued great start at HHS. Here is important information for the coming week:
- Careerline Tech Center (CTC) starts Monday. Bussing for CTC leaves at 7:30am sharp from the back bus loop.
- This week is a 4-day week. There is no school Friday (or the following Monday) for Labor Day weekend.
- Wednesday is an early release day (school ends at 1:55pm).
- This week at Holland High is School Safety Week. We will be introducing, teaching, and practicing all of our safety procedures throughout the week. These procedures have been updated in collaboration with local law enforcement/first responders, in accordance with state research and guidelines. The safety protocol system is titled the “Standard Response Protocol” and introduces 5 alert words that our staff has been trained in: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Open the safety attachments above for more details. Contact any building administrator with questions.

Reminder/request:
HPS will provide students with 1 breakfast & 1 lunch each school day at no-cost to students. Please still complete the short online application at holland.familyportal.cloud/. Without the applications our district risks losing very important state funding.
