Abbey Koessel receives Teachers Live Here grant.
West Teacher Abbey Koessel is the latest recipient of the $25,700 Teachers Live Here grant. The grant will assist Abbey and her husband Nick (a counselor at HMS) with the down payment on a home. They are looking for a home within the HPS school district lines. Teachers who purchase a home within the school district using the grant are awarded an additional $2500 to assist with closing costs.
Right now, my husband Nick and I live in Wyoming and commute to the schools each day. We both joined the HPS district this academic year as a teacher and a school counselor.... We both want to become more active members in our school and the community but struggle to find the extra time on top of our current commute. We know Holland is the place we want to teach, but we also want to live in the community to fully engage with other members and immerse ourselves in the culture surrounding us. I think relationship building is the foundation to truly reaching these students and joining the community is the best way to build these strong relationships personally and professionally.
