Scholarship Deadlines Approaching

Hey Seniors! Scholarship season is here at the Community Foundation of Holland/Zeeland. Applications deadlines are approaching for several scholarships!
FEBRUARY 14 (Valentine’s Day) DEADLINE
Both of the following Haworth scholarship opportunities are available to the public! Haworth applications are due at 5:00 p.m. on February 14: Haworth Application.
- Two $2,000 Haworth Skilled Trades Scholarships are available to the public. To be considered, students must be enrolled in or entering a certification, associates (A.A.A.S.), or skilled trade/vocational program that will support a manufacturing career in one of the following areas: Carpentry, CNC Machining/Programming, Electrical, Electronics Technology, Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning [HVAC] Technician, Industrial Maintenance, Machinist, Machine Repair, Manufacturing Technology, Model Maker, Plumbing, Tool and Die, Welding, etc.
- Five $2,000 Haworth Diversity Scholarships with Paid Work Experience or Internship are available to the public. To be considered, students must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate college or university with a sophomore, junior, or senior status by Fall 2023; must be available for a 12-week internship (40 hours/week) beginning in May 2023 until August 2023; must be studying Business, Design, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, IT, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, or Supply Chain; and must be a member of one of the following minority groups: American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Two or More Races.

Our general application allows students to apply for multiple scholarships at once and is due at 5:00 p.m. on March 1: CFHZ General Scholarship Application.
The following scholarship opportunities are NEW! Students should use the general scholarship application to apply:
- Carolyn L. Ballard & Beverly J. Schoch Scholarship for graduating high school seniors from the Foundation’s primary service area as they pursue post-secondary education to become teachers.
- Colleen DeVore Bekken Visual Arts Scholarship for graduating Saugatuck High School seniors based on their participation in the school’s visual arts program.
- Gerald Bekken Industrial Arts Scholarship for graduating Saugatuck High School seniors based on their participation in the school’s industrial arts program.
- Gerald and Jeannette Bekken Giving Hearts Scholarship for graduating Saugatuck High School seniors who give to others without being asked.
- Randy Boileau Storyteller Scholarship for graduating high school seniors from the Foundation’s primary service area or Hamilton as they pursue degrees in the storytelling field at Grand Valley State University.
- The Bridge Youth Center Student Education Scholarship for graduating high school seniors who are current or previous attendees or volunteers at The Bridge Youth Center.
- Zeeland Education Foundation Shawn R. Jacob Scholarship for graduating Zeeland East or Zeeland West High School seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education to become teachers.
APRIL 1 DEADLINE
- Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 104 Police Academy Scholarship: This scholarship is for State of Michigan residents who are accepted and enrolling in any state certified police academy in Michigan. Applications are due at 5:00 p.m. EST on April 1: FOP Lodge 104 Police Academy Scholarship Application.

The week we return from Spring Break, all Juniors will be taking the SAT, M-STEP, and ACT WorkKeys - the three components of the Michigan Merit Exam (MME). Freshmen and Sophomores will be taking the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10.
Testing starts promptly each day at 7:45am with students released at 12:00pm. Students who are not testing will be expected to log into the assigned virtual assembly.
HHS Senior, Tori Lynch has received the Scholastic American Vision National Gold Medal Award for her mixed media submission titled, 'Remember'. This is a HUGE honor, and a first in HHS history! Lynch is invited to New York in June for the final awards at Carnegie Hall. She's also eligible for scholarships up to $10,000.
Because the Tulip Time Festival has reduced the number of parades during the week, we are adjusting our schedule to better match their new parade schedule.
- Wednesday, May 11 is now a FULL DAY of school for all HPS students and Staff.
- Thursday, May 12 is a HALF DAY of school - The KinderParade is scheduled for this day.
- Friday, May 13 is now a HALF DAY of school - This is the RAIN DAY for the KinderParade. Even if it doesn't rain on Thursday, students will still have a HALF DAY of school on Friday.
All three days are FULL DAYS for HPS STAFF.

Senior, Mariah Depoy has qualified to attend the National Speech and Debate tournament! She placed first in a recent regional event and has been invited to compete among the nation's best! The National tournament will be held in St. Louis in June.

National School Breakfast Week celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success. Holland Public Schools will host an Enrollment Open House this week for families who are looking into Kindergarten for next fall. Today, we talk with two members of the Holland High School Class of 2022 - Bre Eaves and Isaiah Arredondo - about their K-12 experience at Holland Public Schools.
During Black History Month, students will hear the Untold Stories of African American historical figures you may not have heard about - but who contributed to this nation's history.

As a special holiday treat from Holland Public Schools, we will share the finale of that concert…. members of the Holland Choirs, Bands, and Orchestras, along with alumni of the programs, performing the Hallelujah Chorus.
