Homecoming 2021 | A letter from Superintendent Shanie Keelean

Please support our students this weekend; have fun and celebrate! However, let’s do it carefully, taking the necessary precautions to keep us all healthy and our students in the classroom!

Homecoming might be one of my favorite weeks of the school year! It has been fun to see students in all of our schools getting ready for tonight’s football game by dressing up and participating in Spirit Week events!I

I love seeing the community come together to support our students!

  • The Homecoming parade will feature our HHS Band, members of the Homecoming Court, and many of the district’s clubs. It will step off from the Hope Fieldhouse at 6pm and head toward the stadium.
  • Our students will host a pre-game rally at the stadium at 6:30pm.
  • The Holland Dutch will take on Grand Rapids Union in the football game at 7pm.
  • Our High School students will celebrate with an outdoor Homecoming dance on Saturday night from 8-11 pm at the Soccer field

Check out our website for more information about Homecoming.

After missing out on so much over the last 18-months, it was important to our High School staff that we provide students with fun and memorable events for Homecoming. However, we recognize that COVID-19 is still a big concern in our community. As you and your family come to Homecoming events this weekend, please consider the following advice that will help keep COVID from spreading and our students in classrooms:

  • Do not come to Homecoming events if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID. If your child starts to show symptoms, please do not send them to school.
  • Even though all of the Homecoming events are outside, please consider wearing a mask to help prevent the spread of the virus.
  • If possible, please try to leave 3-6ft. of space between you and anyone not living in your household.
  • Replace Handshakes and High-Fives with other elbow-bumps and loud cheering!

Each Friday afternoon, Holland Public Schools releases our weekly COVID dashboard detailing the number of positive cases and quarantines in the district. These numbers have been on the rise over the last few weeks. I expect that trend to continue this week.

So, please support our students this weekend; have fun and celebrate! However, let’s do it carefully, taking the necessary precautions to keep us all healthy and our students in the classroom!

Thank you!
