West March News #3
Dear West Families,
March is READING MONTH!! Thank you to the families who came to last week’s Reading Night! We continue to celebrate Reading Month by reading our One School/One Book, Sea Otter Sunrise, by Mary Pope Osborne. This week’s chapters are 5 and 6. Make sure to watch our West Connections Facebook page to get the links to teachers reading chapters from the book!
Thank you to everyone for supporting our new Drop-Off and Pick-Up routine. It will begin to move more swiftly as we all get used to it!! Remember to use the parking lot if you need to get out of your vehicle, and to pull as far forward as possible to drop-off or pick-up.
This month classes are collecting Power H Tickets to earn a GLOW DANCE!! Each class has a goal of 500 tickets. Power H Tickets are earned for following our POWER expectations. POWER stands for Pride, Own Your Actions, Wise Choices, Engaged, and Respect. Can your child(ren) explain how to have POWER in each school setting (bathroom, playground, cafeteria, etc.)?
As always, please contact our administrative team with any questions or concerns!
Warmly,
Chad Tolson, Principal
Jennifer Heinritz, Assistant Principal

This Week’s PBIS Focus Lesson: Cafeteria
This week we will be reviewing the routine and expectations for what we do in the cafeteria. Please talk with your student(s) about only dishing-up the food that they will eat on their tray. The cafeteria expectations are included in the Monday, March 16 announcements.

Word of the Week
Each Monday, in the announcements, students are introduced to a new vocabulary word and given examples of how to use the word. Through the week, the announcements will sneak in the work as often as possible! This week’s word is Demonstrate. Help your student(s) by talking about the word, using the word and encouraging your child to use the word.
School Food Program Survey
This survey is part of a research study examining how school-based and community food programs impact families’ access to food and overall well-being. The purpose of this study is to better understand food security challenges and evaluate how participation in these programs affects children and households. Your participation is voluntary, and all responses will remain confidential. The information collected will be used for research and program improvement purposes only.
