West November News #3

Dear West Families,

Gobble, gobble! It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week! Our students did an amazing job collecting items for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. Thank you to our PTO for creating this event to help West students get involved in supporting our Holland community!

Our West Drop-Off and Pick-Up routine is getting an overhaul. Please review the procedures as soon as possible to make sure the beginning and end of our school days go smoothly! We know that this will change some family routines, so thank you all for flexibility and supporting the safety of West students.

Don’t forget to check out our daily announcements by going to this link: Nov. Announcements

Please contact our administrative team with any questions or concerns!

Warmly,

Chad Tolson, Principal

Jennifer Heinritz, Assistant Principal

Updated West Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Thank you for reviewing our updated procedures for drop-off and pick-up. Our number one goal is the safety of our West students. As a reminder, there is No Parking in the crosswalk in the pick-up/drop-off lane. Also, please yield to students and adults who need to cross via the crosswalk by stopping your car and waiting for them to safely cross.

Morning Drop-off

  • Morning Drop-Off begins at 8:00 AM for all students

  • If your child needs to arrive prior to this time, then please check out our Books and Games Morning Program (which kids love!!)

  • Pull your vehicle all of the way forward to the curb by the construction fence to unload your student(s).

  • After your student(s) has exited your vehicle, please pull forward, out of the way, so that the next car may unload.

  • Students should enter through the front doors. Please do not drop your students off on the West playground (by the church).

  • ONLY pre-school students may be dropped off on the West playground. This is because preschool students must be brought to the school doors by an adult.

  • Parking is NOT allowed curbside!  Please park in the parking lot if you need to stay longer or get out of your car with your child. This will help keep traffic moving!

Afternoon Pick-Up– Adults Staying in Cars

  • There is a “drive” lane and a “pick-up” lane. Students may only be picked up at the curb, not in the “drive” lane.

  • No parking in the pick-up or drive lanes.  We are trying to keep traffic moving quickly and safely for everyone.

  • Please do not motion students across the traffic lanes to your car into the traffic lanes to get into your vehicle. We want to keep our students safe!

  • You may park in the parking lot and walk-up to the building to get your student.

  • ONLY pre-school students may be picked-up on the West playground. This is because preschool students must be signed-out by an adult.

Afternoon Pick-Up– Adults Walking up to the Building

  • Please stay on the front walkway– Do not enter the playground area!

  • Stand to the sides of the front walkway to make room for teachers and students (see graphic)

  • Let the teacher know before leaving with your student(s)

  • Park your car in the parking lot, not in the pick-up or drive lanes.

Please follow the procedures to help ensure the safety of all. Thanks!!

Late Student Arrivals and Parent Pick-up

If your student is arriving at school after the start of the day, 8:30 AM, then he/she/they must be signed into the office by an adult. Please do not send your child into the building unaccompanied.

Our school day ends at 3:36 PM. Please pick your child(ren) up promptly at the end of the day. Our office and administrative staff often have other obligations, and we cannot guarantee that there will be supervision.
