Red Note, April 19, 2024

Hello HLA Families!

So much to know, please read below.

BHC Healthy at Home - A Healthy Breakfast makes for a Healthy Student!

April’s Building Healthy Communities nutrition lesson is all about “Healthy Breakfast.” Students will learn why breakfast is an important meal and what a healthy breakfast should consist of. Your child’s ability to learn and succeed in the classroom improves when he or she has eaten breakfast. Help encourage your child to eat at least 3 different food groups at breakfast! Plan ahead and find healthy foods that make a quick breakfast for mornings on-the-go! Check out BHC’s parent tip sheets featuring Healthy Breakfast

March Attendance Data + Important Reminders

Part of being Listos para aprender (ready to learn) includes regular attendance. Too many absences lead to missed academic time that negatively impacts student learning. Students are considered chronically absent when they have missed 10% or more of their enrolled school days (approximately 2 or more days per month). Both unexcused AND excused absences are factored into chronic absenteeism percentages to account for overall missed learning time. The chart below shows our school-wide rates of chronic absenteeism each week. Please try to schedule appointments during breaks or after school hours whenever possible and encourage your children to wash their hands and cover their coughs to prevent sickness. Please reach out if there are any barriers to attendance that we can help address.
