April 26, 2026

April 19, 2026

Tulips are blooming and end-of-year planning is underway. Talent Show, Spring Concert, and more, all signs that summer is near! While the excitement is building, we still have important learning ahead, and we need your partnership to finish strong.

Please continue to read, read, read at home each day. As you read with your child, ask questions like: Who is the main character? Looking at the title, what do you think will happen? Can you retell the story, what happened first, then, and finally? These small moments make a big difference in growing strong readers.

Thank you for your continued support in this important, challenging, and rewarding work!

Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day with the HHS SHORE Club at the Earth Day Craft Night on April 22, 5-7pm at HHS. A fun night for the whole family!  https://www.hollandpublicschools.org/pub/news/posts/3518

Intensive Reading Support Plan

We’ve launched a six-week Intensive Reading Support Plan for our first graders. If your child is participating, you received a direct email from Directora Iliana. That said, the information below is helpful for allreaders:

Dear First Grade Families,
We are excited to partner with you to support your child’s reading growth over the next six weeks.

Research shows that 95% of first graders should be reading at grade level by the end of the year. In our district, students typically begin at a Level E, move to Level G by January, and reach Level I by May.

To support this growth, your child is now participating in a daily 30-minute small group (instead of the usual 15 minutes) for more targeted instruction.

How you can support at home:

  • Read with your child every day
  • Ask questions like:
    • Who is the main character?
    • What do you think the story is about based on the pictures?
    • What do you think will happen next?
  • Encourage fluent reading (not like a robot):
    • Pause at periods
    • Use expression with exclamation points
    • Change your voice when reading questions
  • Have your child retell the story in their own words

We are confident that, working together, we will see meaningful growth over the next six weeks.

Thank you for your partnership and continued support.

With appreciation,
Maestra Bol, Maestra Peñaloza, Principal Iliana
