A reminder about Covid from Nurse Beth

Nurse Beth Wiersma

As we approach the holiday season, the number of illnesses, including the number of Covid cases, are on the rise in the district.  Here are a few reminders from Nurse Beth Wiersma about what parents should do when kids are feeling ill.

Covid symptoms appear much like a cold- so please be diligent in testing. Contact your local health care provider or pharmacy for testing information. Free tests can be ordered through the USPS and mailed right to your door.

If your child does test positive for Covid, please reach out to your school nurse for return to school guidance.

Here are also some quick reminders about when to keep your child home from school | When to Keep Your Student Home

  • A fever 100 degrees or higher.
  • A consistent, goopy, runny nose.
  • Green or yellow drainage from the eye. Crusty eyes or eyes that are stuck shut in the morning.
  • A bad cough – one that you wouldn’t want your well child around.
  • A sore throat, especially with fever or swollen glands in the neck.
  • Has distracting pain from earache, headache, sore throat or recent injury.
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
  • If your health care provider has prescribed antibiotics, your child needs to remain at home for 24 hours after starting antibiotics.

Most childhood viral illnesses can be taken care of with fever-reducing medication, fluids, rest and TLC. However, if you have any concerns about any of the above symptoms please contact your health care provider.
