HHS Staff Step Up to Wellness
A Staff Wellness grant through Building Healthy Communities (backed by Blue Cross Blue Shield) Encourages HHS staff to take over 18 million steps.
During the 8-week wellness challenge, staff are put in teams - everyone received a pedometer to count their daily steps. Weekly bonus activities and watching wellness videos earned the teams additional points. All staff who participated got $20 in West Coast Cash; the winning team and individuals got an additional WCC!
For bonus activities we were able to partner with people in our community and utilize resources we already had at Holland High. For example, one week was a weight room overview for staff and letting them know how to use the equipment in there and make sure a key is available to all staff to use when they want to. One week we had our Foods and Health teachers, Jodi Ozimek and Sarah Seccombe (also a part of the health team) teach a healthy food lesson and they made "salad in a jar" with staff members after school. (ingredients bought with grant $).
Outside partners included,
- Back to Health Chiropractic office who was on sight all day to provide assessments for staff.
- Jill Tanis who offered a "Reset" and discussed our relationship to food/how to fuel our bodies
- Yoga with Kathy Kingsley (staff members friend)
- Groove Fitness
- A sound bath with Monarch Music Therapy to end it
- Bonus activities were advertised for all staff to participate in even if not participating in the wellness challenge.
