Jefferson Watch D.O.G.S. Program

WOW! The kick-off to begin the Watch D.O.G.S (Dads Of Great Students) program at Jefferson was a huge success!!

What are Watch D.O.G.S.?

Watch D.O.G.S. are father and father-figures (grandpas, uncles, big brothers) who volunteer for one day at Jefferson. Here is a short video clip from The Today Show that explains who, what and why Watch D.O.G.S. are important: The Today Show Clip

Why do we want Watch D.O.G.S. at Jefferson?

Studies show that poverty, crime, teen pregnancy, health, and graduating high school are all impacted by the lack of a father or father-figure in a child’s life. We have chosen to adopt the Watch D.O.G.S. program at Jefferson to increase father and male participation at Jefferson, and to support each and every Jefferson student in the development of social, physical and academic skills with the support of a male role model.

What do Watch D.O.G.S. do?

During a day as a Watch DOG volunteers will be engaged in multiple activities at Jefferson. Watch D.O.G.S. will begin the day with students on the playground, then move into the building to help in different classrooms. DOGS may be asked to read with students, help students with math, or even go into phys. ed. to play and encourage the sport students are learning. DOGS will always have the opportunity to spend a portion of the day volunteering in their own child's classroom!
