TRAILS begins in January 2023

TRAILS will help students to see someone else's perspective, to foster compromise, to treat others kindly, and to have empathy and understanding.

We are so excited for the start of a new program at Holland Public Schools!  It’s called TRAILS; it stands for Transforming Research into Action to Improve the Lives of Students. Starting in January 2023, students will have one Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lesson per week.

These lessons are based on 5 competencies:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision Making

Social Emotional Learning teaches students to see someone else's perspective, to foster compromise, to treat others kindly, and to have empathy and understanding. Other benefits include:

  • Academic achievement
  • Improving graduation rates
  • Successful employment
  • Positive student attitude
  • Increased mental health
  • Better classroom behavior

If you are interested in previewing any of the TRAILS lessons, our building has printed materials we can share with you. Please let me know if you have any questions.
