Holland Heights November Newsletter

Here's what you need to know about what's happeing at Holland Heights in November!

Notes from the Nurse

With flu season right around the corner this year, keeping sick children home from school is more important than ever.  While prevention is the key, there may be times when your child does become ill with the flu.  In order to protect the health of other students and school staff, children who are sick should not attend school.  Students who are sick should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines.  Thanks for your help in keeping our school as healthy as possible.

 All School Popcorn Sale Fundraiser

On Friday Nov. 18 our All School Popcorn Sale Fundraiser will begin.  This year the entire sale will be done virtually.  You will be able to go online to order what you need for the Holiday Season.  You will also be able to share the link with friends and family so they can order and it will be delivered to their homes.  Your child will bring home an information packet explaining how it works, so look for it in their backpack on Nov. 18.  The money raised from this sale will help support field trips and other school related needs for our kids here at Holland Heights.  The official sale will run for two weeks, but you can order up to Dec. 10 and still get it delivered to you by Christmas. We want to make this as easy as possible for your child to sell and support our school.  The school receives 50% from each sale!!!  The top two classrooms that sell the most items will also earn a Reward!!! (Pizza party, Donut Party, Silly string Mr. Derr)

PBIS Update

Thank you so much for all the parents who took the time to complete our School Climate Survey this Fall.

Parental Involvement is always an area where we can improve. If you are available to serve on our POWER Partners committee to support positive behavior at Heights we would love to have your support! Contact Tesha Post at tpost1@hollandpublicschools.org or at 616-494-2358 to volunteer 30 minutes a month on a Thursday morning from 9:15 -9:45 am.

Winter Reminders

As we near the cold winter season, it is very important that we make sure our children are coming to school with the appropriate clothing.  We will be going outside during the school day, so please be sure to have your child dressed for the weather.  A winter jacket, gloves/mittens, hat, and boots should be worn to school each day.  Your child can bring a pair of shoes to wear during class time in their backpack or they can leave them here at school in their locker or by their hook.  We do have a few donated winter weather clothing items, so let us know if there is something we can help you out with.

REMIND

REMIND is the best way to get “Snow Day” announcements from HPS.  It’s also the way teachers at Holland High School will let you know about important things that are happening in the classroom and at school.  Remind lets you choose to receive and send messages through a mobile app, text messaging, email, or all three!  You already have a Remind account created for you! Learn more about Remind on the district website!

Flu Season and COVID Testing

Did you know the symptoms of COVID-19 and the flu are very similar? If your student or anyone in your home is feeling sick, please stay home from school! It’s also a great idea to get tested. Read all about FREE COVID Home Test Kits available for all HPS students.
