Influenza Closes TK Classroom

Ms. Beckley's TK Class will be closed until Monday.

Please watch your child for signs/symptoms of Influenza. You should keep children home and avoid contact with other people if they have flu symptoms.

After several positive cases of Influenza were reported this week, we will be closing Ms. Beckley’s TK classroom at Jefferson Elementary for the remainder of this week.

As always, we work closely with the Ottawa County Department of Public Health to monitor the health of our students. We will follow their recommendation to close this classroom for several days to keep the virus from spreading any further.

If your student is experiencing ANY of the following Influenza symptoms, please do not send them to school:

  • Fever (usually high)
  • Headache
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle aches
  • Stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, also can occur but are more common in children than adults

Please watch your child for these signs/symptoms. You should keep children home and avoid contact with other people if they have these symptoms. Call your child’s physician for advice.

You may ease symptoms with over the counter flu medicine, get plenty of rest and drink fluids. Your child should stay home for at least 24 hours after their fever is gone without the aid of fever reducing medicines, and until cough is resolved.

Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing of people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose. The contagious period starts 1 day before symptoms develop and last until 5-7 days after symptoms develop

While the students are home, this classroom will get deep clean. We are excited to see everyone back in class on Monday (or after any flu symptoms are gone!).

If you have questions or concerns please contact our School Nurse, Jennifer Yoder at 616-494-2532.
