The Water Is My Sky

Holland High Alum, Brian Tremml has released a documentary film about the sport of swimming.  It features two Holland High Swimming legends: Coach Don Kimble and swimmer Taylor Garcia.

A Local public screening will be hosted at Bouw's Pool on Friday, June 4 at dusk.

Brian Tremml is a 2008 graduate of Holland High School. While at Holland, he competed as a member of the 2007 state championship-winning swimming and diving team under coach Don Kimble. After graduating, he swam competitively for four years at the University of Iowa, where he earned a degree in filmmaking.

After graduating, he began working on an independent documentary film about the sport of swimming called "The Water Is My Sky." Over the years, it took on many different shapes, before settling as a holistic portrait of the sport through the lives of three different swimmers all striving to achieve personal mastery.

The message of the film is important for young athletes (and people): that the process of trying your best should be appreciated more than outcomes, results, or external achievements.

ne of the swimmers featured in the film is HHS grad, Taylor Garcia. Don Kimble, my former coach and Taylor's club coach, is also featured in the film.

Kiel Nowakowski (HHS grad, 2008) is also involved in the production of the film.

On Friday, June 4, at 9:00PM/dusk there is going to be a public screening of my film at Bouw's pool. The event will be dedicated to celebrating the film, but also celebrating Don Kimble's life and memory. This event will be free to the public. The event's host will be asking for donations to help cover costs, but no one will be obligated to pay.
