May West News #3

Dear West Families,

The countdown has begun– Only 9 full days and two half-days left before Summer Vacation!!!

Our West third through fifth grade students have finished taking M-STEP, and all students are engaged in completing NWEA and DELTA testing. As a special celebration for our hard working West students, we will have a West Test Celebration on Monday, June 1. The celebration will include a fun bounce house, games, face painting and popcorn! While students are taking assessments, they will be earning special PBIS Test Tickets. We welcome any support for the Test Celebration!! A message from West’s amazing PTO: West Elementary's Annual Field Day is Friday, May 22! The forecast is calling for a beautiful day so please send kids to school in weather appropriate clothing that you don't mind getting a bit dirty. We encourage caregivers to send kids with sunscreen, hats, water bottles, and a snack that's easy to bring into the field.

Grades K-2 will participate in the morning from 9am to noon.

Grades 3-5 will participate in the afternoon from noon to 3pm.

If you would like to volunteer, there are still a few spots open: https://tinyurl.com/WestFieldDay26. YOU MUST HAVE A CLEARED BACKGROUND CHECK ON FILE. If you would like to watch your student participate, you are more than welcome to view from the bleachers, but you will not be able to enter the field.

The 2026 Summer Adventure Camps with the Outdoor Discovery Center is an engaging summer program designed for students going into Kindergarten through 5th grade. It will focus on literacy skills through hands-on, nature-rich experiences. The Camp will take the place of HPS Summer Learning in 2026. 2026 Summer Adventure Camps with ODC

We are excited to announce that enrollment is now open for the 2026 Summer Adventure Camps with the Outdoor Discovery Center! This engaging summer program is designed for students going into 1st grade through 5th grade and will focus on literacy skills through hands-on, nature-rich experiences.

Adventure Camp will be held at Jefferson Elementary 282 W 30th Street
June 15-July 23
8:30am – 12:30pm each day (Breakfast and Lunch will be available at no cost.)

The Summer Adventure Camp with ODC is led by the Outdoor Discovery Center’s Education Network and will take the place of HPS Summer School. This is the ONLY Summer School option being offered at HPS in the summer of 2026 for K-5 students.

Space may be limited, so we encourage you to complete the enrollment form as soon as possible.

5th and 6th Middle School Bingo Night

June 11 - Aug. 30

7-Day Meal Box -2026

HPS is proud to provide 7-Day Meal Boxes to families in the district during the summer months.

Each box will contain a menu with food prep instructions and food items for 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches per week.

Meal pick-up will be located at Central Wesleyan Church (446 West 40th St. Holland MI 49423 - Door A) from 12:00-1:00 PM
Thursday, June 11 through July 30
Meals will be distributed based on a first come first served basis and not based on pre-registration.

There is no need to register for these meals... just stop by during the pick-up time to receive the meals for your student(s).

Nurse Notes - May

For the last 77 years, May has been designated as Mental Health Awareness Month. It was introduced by the organization Mental Health America, with the focus of increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting wellness.

In this month's newsletter, you'll learn more about practices that can help improve our children’s mental health as well as our own.

2026-27 Student Registration

As we prepare for the start of the next school year, it's time to register your student for 2026-27. This is something we ask ALL current HPS families to do EVERY year. Completing the registration lets us know:

Your student(s) will be returning next year!
Your household contact information is up to date
Your student health information is up to date
if you are requesting transportation for the 2026-2027 school year (Deadline to request bussing is August 1.)

Without this information, your student can not be added to a class list for next year OR have a class schedule created for them.

It doesn't take long to update this information in your Parent Portal account - but it is so important that you do it very soon!

WEST - Tulip Time KinderParade 2026

HPS Students (Grades 1-5) are invited to march in the Tulip Time KinderParade on Thursday May 7. If you are planning on your child walking in the parade, they must have a costume and you must fill out this form by Monday, May 4.
