West Summer School: Week 3

Resumes Monday, July 7 at 8:30 AM!

Happy July! This month has rolled in with hot and steamy weather! Please read this message from the Outdoor Discovery Center:

Greetings from the Outdoor Discovery Center!

Thanks for a wonderful first two weeks of camp! We have really enjoyed our outdoor time together. Next week’s forecast looks a bit steamy.

We will have a cooling and water station available, stay in the shade as much as possible, and take scheduled breaks in a cooled space when weather dictates. We follow the MHSAA guidelines for outdoor activities during heat. Please make sure your child is well hydrated at home and we will do the same at camp. If there are specific heat related issues we need to be aware of, please reach out!

Our time together next week will include a few water activities, and an off site adventure Thursday. If possible, please send students with the following:

  • Shoes that can get wet (still closed toed) - see note

  • Quick-ish drying clothing

  • Hat

  • Sunscreen (applied beforehand)

  • Water bottle

Note: This can be water shoes or croc type shoes, but any pair of shoes you don't mind drying out overnight works well. Do not feel pressure to buy anything new. We hope to have a few pairs of extras available.

Thanks for all you do to encourage exploration and curiosity at home!

ODC Summer Team

This week students will be visiting the Saugatuck Dunes. Students will be learning about the parts of plants (K-1st grade) and identifying trees (2nd and 3rd grade).

We can't wait to welcome all of HPS kiddos back! Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Jennifer Heinritz
