Jefferson January News

Hello Jefferson Families,

Welcome to 2023! Along with ringing in a new year, Jefferson also has some new and exciting opportunities beginning for Jefferson students and families. During the month of December, Jefferson students participated in a lunch group focused on learning to knit. Next week we have two new Lunch Groups starting, Lego Club and Board Game Club. Both lunch groups offer students the ability to interact with friends while developing social skills.

Beginning in February, Jefferson will be kicking-off the Watch D.O.G.S program. Watch D.O.G.S. stands for Dads Of Great Students, and are fathers or father-figures who dedicate one school day to volunteering at Jefferson. By participating in the Watch D.O.G.S. program, dads can play a vital role as positive influences for all of our Jefferson students. Girls on the Run will also be kicking-off at Jefferson! We are so excited to be able to offer this amazing program for our Jefferson girls. Read more about how to become a Watch DOG and/or sign-up for GOTR below.

Coming up this month our Jefferson students will be participating in mid-year assessments. These assessments help our teaching staff measure student growth, and pin-point how best to support each students' academic need(s). Assessment results will be shared with families during February conferences.

As always, please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Sara Folkert, Principal

Jennifer Heinritz, Assistant Principal

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students)

In February, Jefferson will be kicking off our Watch D.O.G.S. program!!  The program encourages fathers and father-figure involvement at school. The program has two main goals:

1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

The program encourages fathers and father-figures to dedicate one day of volunteering to their child's or children's school. During time at the school, each Watch DOG will help support students in different areas of the school, anywhere from the classroom to the playground. Follow this link for more program information: https://dadsofgreatstudents.com/about/

Future Watch DOGS: Keep the night of Tuesday, January 17th open for an informational pizza night from 5:30 - 6:30 PM!!!

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is coming to Jefferson this March! If you aren't familiar with the program, GOTR is an international nonprofit that offers programs to strengthen 3rd-8th grade girls’ social, emotional, physical, and behavior skills. The program combines physical movement with life-skills lessons to help build confidence and create healthy lifelong habits.

GOTR is a 10 week program, which will begin Monday, March 13th, for 3rd-5th grade girls. Girls will meet after school, two days per week (Monday and Wednesday) from 3:45pm-5:15pm, at Jefferson. The program ends with a Celebration 5K in June!

Registration is already OPEN!!! The registration fee is $125, but financial assistance is available to every girl that applies! REGISTER HERE

We are looking for coaches! As a coach, you must be committed to attend practice 1-2 days a week for 10 weeks and participate in the Celebration 5K in June. There must be 2 coaches at every practice. You do not have to be a runner! You simply have to be passionate about helping girls be their best selves! GOTR provides you with all the curriculum and training for free. You can apply directly on https://www.gotrwm.org/coach.
