Chocolate Talk at West

3rd-grade students at West enjoy non-fiction reading and a treat.

This is a time when students receive a Scholastic News along with hot chocolate and a Honeybun.  This is kind of a throw back to  a parent sitting at the table reading the newspaper and drinking coffee.

The purpose of reading Scholastic News is to make a fun and unique way of teaching students more about how to recognize and identify non-fiction text features.  This is always a struggle for third graders, so we decided to change up the way we taught this concept.  It also builds confidence in students with reading non-fiction.

Chocolate Talk happens every Friday in Mrs Kooyer's classroom!
