A note from Superintendent Keelean

We all could use a few days off.

I wanted to drop you a quick note to remind you about the day-off all students will get on Friday, November 12.  While their teachers will be working that day, we hope that students will use the day to relax and recover.  With all the stress of the world we live in, we all need a break every now and then.

During the day off, you may want to take advantage of the COVID Vaccine Clinic for kids 5-11 years old.  The Ottawa County Department of Public Health will host the clinic at West Elementary on Friday from 10am-4pm. There are several other clinics scheduled in the area in the next few weeks. Please register in advance!

A quick note about Thanksgiving week:
Last year, HPS was able to close our schools on the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving to deep-clean our buildings and extend the holiday break for our families. We looked into doing the same thing this year. But, because the rules have changed around remote-learning, we will keep schools open, as scheduled during the week of Thanksgiving;  Please do all you can to be sure your student attends school on Monday and Tuesday, November 22 & 23.

As we approach the holidays, here are a few things to remember:

  • Please, keep you kids home from school if they are feeling ill or showing any symptoms of COVID
  • Be mindful about large holiday parties and gatherings
  • Wear a mask when in public places with a lot of people
  • Wash your hands frequently

Thank you for all your efforts to keep our kids healthy and safe. Your support is essential in helping us provide safe and predictable learning environments for HPS students.

Shanie J. Keelean,
Superintendent

P.S.
I hope you can join the students and staff of Holland High as they host the 84th Annual Veteran’s Day Assembly today. The assembly is being held virtually. Video of the service will be available at 11am.
