Holland CHAOS - Team 74 | Robotics

Robotics is very different this year, especially for the competitions. Instead of traveling to different schools for the weekend and competing for the weekend, them records their robot doing different challenges in the Haworth building. There are about five different competitions, but the team is only required to complete three of them.  They have chosen

  • Autonomous driving challenge
  • Two self driving challenges
  • Shooting challenge

Six HHS students participate on a regular basis:

  • Clarissa Flores- She is a hard working student that helps keep the energy up. She helps with things that might go unnoticed, like a back drop for the shooter goal so the balls don't go flying everywhere.
  • Hannah Kelly- Hannah is a fun student that makes sure to interact with every student at robotics. They help Clarissa get work done while chatting with others. Hannah  is also in theater so they tend to only come on weekends, and they have sadly been quarantined twice this season alone.
  • Oscar Serrano- Oscar is a student that helps a lot with the driving of our robot. When all the students drove the robot he by far had the fastest speed. On the first track we all practiced he got 8.43 seconds.
  • Ben Alderson- Ben is one of our most crucial members this year. Ben makes sure to help out on the robot, knowing how to help in every aspect of the group. They helped especially with the shooter, but they've done much more which is obvious since Ben was also nominated for the dean's list.
  • Addison Higgins-  Addison has shown that she is a veteran on the team this year. She's helped to prototype and build our shooter for this year's robot.  She is full of energy and always keeping us laughing.
  • Alexis Serrano- Alexis a senior this year who has graduated early, but is still able to compete on the team with us. She is often very busy with work, but enjoys joining us when she can.

The current mentors are:

  • Tim Chamness- Tim was a Holland High graduate of  2007 and was a member of the robotics team. The company he work,s for Up and Running Software has been a sponsor.
  • Jim Bench- Jim is a 1998 graduate of Holland High school and was also a student member on the team.  He is the   Engineering  Manager  of Russells Technical Products and they sponsor our team.
  • Tom Brents- Tom's sons were former members of the team who have since graduated and he is still a mentor.  He is a Culinary Arts Instructor at Michigan Career and Technological Institute.
  • Adam Deveraux- Adam also had sons who were former members of the team and still is a mentor.  He works as a Cloud and Security Manager at Worksighted
  • Kristen Gilbert- Kristen is a Special Education Teacher at Holland High School. She got involved with robotics because her daughter competed with a local team, and she couldn't give robotics up.
  • Angelo Vozza- Angelo has been involved with FIRST robotics since he was in 6th grade.  He is currently in his 2nd of 2 years as Holland High School's College Advisor .
  • Shane Harrelson- Shane Harrelson has been involved for many years because he has had two sons on the team, one still currently. He is a software Engineer for BIS.
  • Jake Semens- Jake is a 2015 graduate of Holland High School and was  a member of the robotics team when in high school.   He currently works as a CAD designer  at Russell's Technical Products.
  • Tim Plants- Tim is in his 3rd year as a robotics mentor. He is a  Science/CAD/Intro to Engineering teacher at Holland High School.
  • Maria Serrano- Maria is a parent of two current robotics team members.  She works at Perrigo as a Shift Trainer.

Thank you to Robotic team sponsors: Haworth, Up and Running Software, AD BOS, NASA, Holland Education Foundation, Kenowa Industries, and Russell's Technical Products.
