Remote Learning Expectations for HPS Elementary Schools

Staff, student, and family expectations during remote learning.

Student Responsibilities:

Students will...

  • Attend each of your classes via Google Meet/Zoom so you get the introduction of that day’s learning.  Google Meet/Zoom links will be located in your teacher’s Google Classroom.
  • Attendance will be taken every day and if you miss a meeting,  you will need to watch the video and answer the questions.
  • Engage with new instruction and complete assignments in ALL of the lessons. Participation is required and work will be graded. Your graded work will be reflected on your school report card.
  • Check your school email (if applicable), Google Classroom, and Infinite Campus daily.
  • Email your teacher, social worker, or another staff member if you need academic or social/emotional support.
  • It is highly encouraged for your camera to remain on because this is a way to ensure engagement, social connection, and check for understanding.  Mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
  • This is a virtual classroom and appropriate classroom behavior is expected- including what you wear.  If your behavior is not appropriate, your teacher will reach out to your Principal.
  • When you enter your virtual classroom, be ready to learn.  Do not bring toys, animals, or other electronics with you to the lesson.  You should eat breakfast/lunch before your scheduled time to meet.

Teacher Responsibilities:

Teachers will...

  • Conduct virtual class lessons/meetings via Google Meet/ Zoom (Post links to Google Classroom).
  • Check your Google classroom for the times each day those will happen.
  • Staff who do Check & Connect, will connect weekly with their students with an agreed upon time between them and their student.
  • Take attendance based on students who log into that day’s Google Meet/ Zoom.  Log attendance into Infinite Campus as normal.
  • Facilitate daily instruction and present content in a variety of ways.
  • Provide multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of the material.
  • Assess student learning, provide feedback, and enter grades weekly into Infinite Campus.
  • Be accessible during the school day for support.
  • Schedule individual or small group virtual meetings with students if there is a need for personalized instruction or support.
  • Post recorded lessons on their Google Classroom for students to watch if they missed a lesson.

Family Responsibilities:

Families will...

  • Make sure your child gets online daily for the scheduled Google Meet/ZOOM meetings.   Students are required to attend those meetings and complete the work after watching the recorded lesson for attendance.
  • Provide a place and time in your home that is conducive to learning.
  • Check on assignments, homework and projects.
  • Talk each day with your child about his/her activities.
  • If your child is in need of tech support, email HL1to1@oaisd.org.
  • If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child's teacher or the building principal.  Be sure your contact information is up-to-date in Parent Portal.

Supports Needed and Miscellaneous Information:

  • Parents/Guardians may call in to excuse an absence due to sickness, Dr. appointment, or family emergency, as is the current practice.
  • Attendance will be recorded by teachers.

Grading:

  • Instruction and work will be provided daily.
  • Work completion, student progress, and participation will be monitored and will impact students’ grades.
  • Student grades may increase or decrease during remote learning.
  • Teachers understand the many unique circumstances that exist during this time.  They will offer flexibility as needed.
