Expectations for Remote Learning

In the event that Holland High School (HHS, HVRT, and HEC) shifts to remote learning at any time this school year,  the information contained in this letter details what is expected of our students and teachers.

Dear Students & Families,

There are similarities to our Remote Learning window from the  Spring, but there are also important differences to note:

  • Instruction and work will be provided daily.
  • Work completion, student progress, and participation will be monitored and will impact students’ grades.
  • Student grades may increase or decrease during remote learning.
  • Attendance will be recorded by teachers.

We will continue to follow the High School weekly schedule and the designated “A” or “B” days.  “Flex/Blended,” days will operate as they have since September.  Contact your individual teachers if you have questions about expectations on those days.

Student Responsibilities:
Students are required to:

  •  Attend each of your classes via Google Meet for attendance and introduction of that day’s learning.  Google Meet links will be located on Google Classroom/Canvas.
    • 8:00am (1st/2nd hour)
    • 10:00am (3rd/4th hour)
    • 12:00pm (5th/6th hour)
  • Engage with new instruction and complete assignments in ALL of the 3 classes that would typically meet on that day (example, on an A day- log into hours 1, 3, and 5). Participation is required and work will be graded.
  • Meet one-on-one with a teacher (virtually).  This can be scheduled by you or your teacher. These meetings would provide time for individualized or small group instruction.
  • Behave in accordance with district technology expectations and follow appropriate behavior norms at all times when engaging with peers via remote learning.
  • Engage with Careerline Tech Center, Davenport University (HEC), Dual Enrollment and other special classes/programs as determined by the Careerline Tech Center and/or University.
  • Continue all Odysseyware, Michigan Virtual coursework as assigned.
  • Email your teacher, school counselor, social worker, or another staff member if you need academic or social/emotional support.

Teacher Responsibilities:

Teachers will...

  • Conduct virtual class meetings via Google Meet (Post  Google Meet links to Google Classroom/Canvas).
    • 8:00am (1st/2nd hour)
    • 10:00am (3rd/4th hour)
    • 12:00pm (5th/6th hour)
  • Take attendance based on students who log into that day’s Google Meet.  Log attendance into Infinite Campus as normal.  Continue to track attendance on “Flex/Blended” days on the Google Form. .
  • Facilitate daily instruction and present content in a variety of ways.
  • Provide multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of the material.
  • Assess student learning, provide feedback, and enter grades weekly into Infinite Campus.
  • Be accessible during the school day for support.
  • Schedule individual or small group virtual meetings with students if there is a need for personalized instruction or support.

Family Expectations:

  • Provide a place and time at home for homework
  • Check on assignments, homework and projects
  • Talk each day with your child about his/her activities
  • Follow this link to access Google Classroom codes.  For HEC students, click here for Canvas instructions. Here you will find instruction and the most up-to-date grades and feedback.
  • If your child is in need of tech support, email HL1to1@oaisd.org.
  • If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child's teacher, counselor, or a member of our administrative team.  Be sure your contact information is up-to-date in Parent Portal.

We are confident that we have the protocols in place  to ensure a positive, productive, and supportive  learning environment for each student.  Thank you for your support, partnership, and shared accountability.
