Recent Inspection Results

Holland Language Academy and Holland West Elementary addressing minor inspection issues. Kitchens will continue to serve meals in a safe and healthy manner.

Recently, two of the District's six kitchens were cited by Ottawa County Department of Public Health officials for health & safety violations. In both cases, at issue is a plumbing system violation. The HPS Nutrition Service Team is working closely with the OCDPH to correct the issues:

  • At Holland Language Academy the "air gap" issue with one of the kitchen's steam ovens was immediately addressed following the inspection.
  • At West Elementary It is our understanding that variances for a similar system was obtained when the kitchen was built years ago.  The plumbing system at the school has passed many similar inspections by the OCDPH in the past. County officials are investigating their records to determine if a variance is on file.  If so, they will modify their weekly inspection reports to reflect the health and safety standards HPS strives to maintain. if not, we will work with the OCDPH to obtain a variance or fix the problem.

To be clear, health inspectors do NOT believe the cited violations represent significant immediate health concerns for students who eat breakfast or lunch at these schools. our kitchens will remain open and meals will continue to be served while corrections are made.
