Quiz Bowl: This week in Quiz Bowl action, the Dutch Nerd Army went to Kalamazoo for a tournament against strong competition from Northern Indiana and West Michigan. Competing for Holland were the Varsity team of Wilson Lin, Kimia McMullen, Sam Huizinga, and Chanelle Jackson. Our team went 3-2, with competitive losses, losing one match by a single question in a tie breaker round. In the afternoon, They went 2-1. Final placements have yet to be reported, but they should land in 6th or 7th place, depending on how the other teams in their bracket did. If you are interested in trying out quiz bowl, We will be hosting a round table trivia with area schools in the HHS Commons on January 5th. Stop by a practice on Tuesdays or Thursdays immediately after school in room C-2218 from 3-4 PM to find out more.
Freshman Student Senate Elections: Freshmen, you may have noticed on the TVs pictures of your classmates who have decided to run for Student Senate for the remainder of the school year. Next week, on Wednesday, December 10, you will have a chance to vote for six of the candidates to represent you on the Student Senate. More details to come next week.
Spotlight Scholarship – CFHZ Application: The CFHZ Community Scholars Application has officially opened and connects students to over 200 local scholarships for those in the Holland and Zeeland area.One application automatically matches you to more than 200 scholarships and may provide additional opportunities depending on eligibility. This scholarship is open to all students regardless of status or FAFSA completion and includes scholarships for employees or dependents of local businesses such as Russ’, Freedom Village, and Holland Hospital. SHORE Club Candy Grams: The Shore Club will be selling "Candy Grams" during both lunches, Wednesday through Friday this week. The options are Candy Canes, Chocolate Coins, or DelaRosa Mazapans. You MUST know the 6th hour teacher of the person you are sending it to when you purchase one, as they will be delivered during 6th hour the week of exams. Each Candygram will be $1, and the proceeds will go towards gifts for "Toys for Tots.
SLiC: SLiC is collecting squishmallows for children in foster care, as they are the most popular request by children of all ages. Each donation helps ensure children entering the foster care system have something of their own during an uncertain time. All plush donations will be distributed by Arbor Circle through their welfare and youth programs. The donation box is located in the SSO
Art Club: ART CLUB will meet during BOTH lunches on Wednesday, Dec 17. Come relieve some exam stress by making ART! You can stay up to date with the happenings of ART CLUB by joining the Google Classroom with the code: oaq57pt.

Wrestling: The Holland High wrestling team dominated at the Vicksburg Team Tournament, going 5-0 on the day and improving their overall record to 5-2. The coaching staff was extremely proud of how the team responded after some tough losses on Wednesday.
Men's Swimming: Your Holland Dutch Boys Varsity Swim and Dive Team travelled to Otsego early Saturday morning for their first meet of the season. Holland competed against Otsego, Allegan, Wayland, and Hamilton. Junior Luke Arendshorst placed fourth overall in the 50 freestyle (25.18) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.61). Fellow junior Jonathan Ross placed 6th in the 200 Individual Medley (2:25.90). Freshman Urban Cassar took 6th in the 50 freestyle (27.00), and Senior Anthony Poest finished 6th in backstroke with a 1:19.65. Diver Keegan Welsh finished in 4th place with a score of 142.35.
“This team is off to a great start!” Said head coach Tonya Book. “We’re excited to see how we improve over the next 14 weeks!” The Dutch head to the North Side on Thursday night to compete against the West Ottawa Panthers. The meet begins at 6:00 pm.
