Jefferson December News

Hello Jefferson Families,

It’s hard to believe that December begins in just two days! We have had a great first three months of school, and will close out 2023 STRONG and POWERful!  December and January are a time when students make many academic gains. Please continue to support your child(ren) at home by reading each and every night. Always know that you can reach out to your students' teacher and our Jefferson administrators if you need strategies on how to support academic needs at home.

December at Jefferson is filled with many exciting activities and learning experiences including, a fun Holiday Craft event during which all students will have the opportunity to create a gift, our fourth graders' trip to Lansing to tour the capital building, and a special anti-bullying assembly featuring a world champion BMX rider!

Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Sara Folkert, Principal

Jennifer Heinritz, Assistant Principal

Jefferson POWER Squad

Our Jefferson POWER Squad is fired-up for action thanks to 5th grade teachers Laine Hoeffel and Beth VanDyke! This special group of student leaders meets once a week to review what it means to show POWER expectations, and to discuss the special jobs that they do to help the students and staff of Jefferson. The POWER Squad members have helped run the Power H Shop, helped in the cafeteria during the younger grades' lunch periods, and have supported in the building in many other ways. This years' POWER Squad members are Rosy Alvarado, Braelyn Boerson, Brooklyn Blacksher, Lydia Cervantes, Keziah Clarke, E'ziyah Herron, Owen Hofland, Ayvah Kelley, Nevaeh Mullennix, Tayshaun Noarman, Leah Peck, Yaya Ramos, Avery Soloman, and Maggie Wade.

Nurse's Note

This year, Michigan schools who agree to participate in a COVID-19 testing program are eligible for grant funding and additional personnel called Health Resource Advocates (HRA). The good news is that HPS Is participating in this program and will benefit with two additional Holland Hospital School nurses that will specifically support COVID-19 testing and mitigation efforts. We will also be participating in the Backpack Testing Program. The Backpack Testing Program will provide COVID-19 at-home tests to those who would like them. This is available to all students! Fill out the form at the following link to request a testing kit: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1s2N_nVk6aau-iXkC2EpWSayT9sd1uyUcbChMdh25CkM/edit#responses

Lunch Clubs

One of our goals at Jefferson is to give our students as many experiences as possible beyond classroom academics. On Thursday, December 1 our first Lunch Club, Knitting, will begin! We would like to expand the Lunch Club choices that we can offer to students. If you have a skill, hobby or sport that you would like to teach to a small group of students, please consider coming to Jefferson to run a Lunch Club! Contact Sara Folkert for more information.

Power H Holiday Shop

On Monday, December 19 and Tuesday, December 20 our Jefferson students will have the opportunity to use their Power H Bucks to shop for holiday gifts for friends and family members. Our Jefferson Power H Store will be stocked with gift items that have been donated just for this occasion! We are collecting items for the Holiday Shop until Friday, December 16. Some donation ideas are new cozy socks, candles, fun coffee mugs, and small decor items. If you have items to donate, please drop them off in the main office.
