Holland Heights October Newsletter

A Note from Principal Derr!

School Wide Behavior Expectations Reminder!!

HPS is committed to a positive school climate that improves learning outcomes. At Holland Heights, our behavior expectations are described in the matrix P-O-W-E-R.  Our staff has been teaching what POWER stands for so that every student can memorize, recite, and demonstrate positive behavior.

We believe it is important for each parent to be aware of these expectations so you can support our efforts at home..  Here’s what POWER stands for:

  • P-Pride   (We care about self, others, work). Focus for Oct. is Pride in Attendance!!
  • O-Own Your Actions  (We are responsible and honest)
  • W- Wise Choices  (We think before acting)
  • E- Engaged  (We are focused and involved in learning)
  • R-Respect  (Be Nice)

We are also focusing on 4 things we can control every day at school that fit within the POWER expectations:

  1. A GREAT Attitude
  2. Giving your very, very, best.
  3. Treating people really, really well.
  4. Having Unconditional Gratitude/Being Thankful

Regardless of our circumstances we can control these four things to make our day Amazing.

Holland Heights Family Reading Night

We have scheduled a family engagement night on Thursday Oct. 27 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. We will plan to have a meal starting at 5:30 PM and then move into the learning portion of the evening at 6:00.  Please have your kids come to this event dressed in their Halloween costumes, if they choose to.  There will be a Reading strategy you can use with your child at home when they read, an Art activity to do with your child and a book,  along with some Halloween treats.  Look for information coming home soon for you to sign up for this event to help us with planning how much food we will need that night.  Thank you.
