Dropping the "Interim" from Mrs Bair's title.
Mrs. Bair named Principal of Holland Middle School by Board of Education
During the Board of Education Meeting on April 25, Superintendent Nick Cassidy read the following statement:
Rene Bair has served as Assistant Principal since the Middle School’s creation in 2018. During the hiring process for Assistant Principal she participated in an extensive interview and screening process and as a district we knew that we were hiring someone who would eventually be a building Principal. Through all of the transition that we have experienced over the last year, I would argue that Rene has had the greatest lift within the district. She has stepped into a new role with providing on-the-job training for her previous role. I met with staff at HMS last month for discussions around leadership at HMS.
An email I received from a teacher sums it up best: “I cannot imagine taking on everything Rene has. She has a heart for our students. She gives her all to us and this building.”
Prior to coming to Holland as the Assistant Principal in 2018 Rene has served as an Instructional Coach and has taught 3rd, 4th, and 7th grades. What stands out most when looking through her history is a consistent pattern of leadership at every level as well as a continual drive to get involved with kids. Rene is still a teacher at heart and approaches her job in that way.
I have 100% confidence in her leadership and know that her drive will continue to push HMS forward. My recommendation to the board will be to approve an appointment of Rene Bair to Principal of Holland Middle School.
The Board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation.
Mr. Kreps will continue to serve as Interim Assistant Principal as Holland Middle will go through an interview process for that position in the coming weeks.

Between now and November 1, we are asking all families to once again choose between face-to-face instruction at school OR online learning from home for the second half of the academic year.
45 Students are being quarantined after close contact with HPS staff who have tested positive for Covid-19… But, again this week, 0 students testing positive! Not all seven staff members in isolation or quarantine have tested positive; some are quarantined for close contact outside the classroom with someone who has tested positive.
We're celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of video featuring Hispanic leaders in our community.
Three HPS staff members are currently in insolation or quarantined with positive COVID-19 test results as a result of exposure from outside their classroom. After careful contact-tracing, 13 HPS students who came in close contact with these staff members (being within 6 feet of the staff member for 15 cumulative minutes) are being contacted by OCDPH to quarantine and be tested.

Over the pandemic our greenhouse got an upgrade with the addition of a paved walkway leading up to it. The Art and STEM departments are offering the community a chance to have one of those pavers dedicated to a person or family.
For a suggested donation of $20 an Art student will paint the name (3 word limit) and a design on one of the pavers in honor of whomever you choose. Deadline to sign up this Friday!
All proceeds go to support the Art and STEM departments at HMS.

The guidance provided by Governor Whitmer’s roadmap is an important first step in providing local districts with the direction and clarity needed to begin creating reopening plans. It is our hope that we have more specifics to share the first week of August. Our goal is to bring our completed plans to the Board of Education for approval at that time.
