3.9.22 | Incident at HMS

Threatening comments found at HMS. Student removed from school during investigation.

HMS Families,

I want to take a moment to reiterate that providing a safe and predictable learning environment for our students and staff is our highest priority here at Holland Middle School.  There is zero tolerance for remarks or threats that are made and all are taken with the utmost seriousness.

Today, threatening comments were found written on a restroom wall. School Resource Officer Ana Heintzleman was immediately notified about the comments. Video surveillance footage from the hallway was used to identify a student who later admitted to making the threats.  After a parent meeting, the student was sent home and will not be allowed to return to school until an investigation into the incident is complete.

At Holland Middle School, all threats are thoroughly investigated and both consequences and precautions are put in place when warranted.

Students know they should always tell an adult or call OK2Say if they see or hear threats, or if they have a concern for their safety, or the safety of others. Students are aware of how seriously we take this kind of incident and understand the serious consequences that come with making threats.

If there are follow up questions or concerns, please contact the front office at (616)494-2427 or email.
