Taking All Threats Seriously

At HPS, we provide all students and staff powerful learning opportunities in safe, secure, and predictable environments.

HMS Families,

I want to take a moment to reiterate that safety is our number one priority here at school.  There is zero tolerance for remarks or threats that are made and all are taken with the utmost seriousness.  All threats are thoroughly investigated and both consequences and precautions are put in place, when warranted.  Please note, this may look different from situation to situation, due to the nature of the threat and our knowledge of individual students.

Recently, we had a student make a comment of a threatening nature to another student.  We immediately followed up with the student and family and were able to verify that the comments, while grossly inappropriate and concerning, were not a credible threat. Consequences and specific safety measures have been put in place for this specific student.

Students know they should always tell an adult or call OK2Say, if they see or hear threats of if they have a concern for their safety of the safety of others.  We have a school-wide presentation on this every year.  Students are also aware how seriously we take this and the serious consequences that come with making threats; even if they think they are making a "joke."

Officer Anna Heintzleman, our School Resource Liasson from the Holland Police Department, will be sending out additional communication regarding safety measures and consequences connected to making threats.  Please have a conversation about this with your child(ren).

If there are follow up questions or concerns, please contact the front office at (616)494-2427 or email
