HLA Red Notes

Don't be late - but don't be too early! | Homecoming '21 | Hispanic Heritage Month

Arrival and Dismissal

As a reminder, students should not be dropped off prior to 8:25, HLA staff will not be outside, not responsible for supervising students at that time. Further, the playground is off limits both before and after school. Feel free to use the playground on your own time, when school is not in session. Thank you for your continued support.

Extra Clothing

Please keep a backup pair of pants/shirts/underwear/ socks in your child’s backpack or at school. We do not have extras at school to lend in the case of wet or soiled clothing. Thank you!

Hispanic Heritage Month

Yesterday, marked the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place September 15 to October15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community. During the month long celebration, we will be highlighting one of twenty-one Spanish speaking countries/islands. Be sure to ask your child about whatt hey learned.

Homecoming Parade + Football Game '21

The annual Homecoming Parade will take place next Friday, September 24th. The parade will begin at 6:00 at the DeVos Fieldhouse parking lot, located at 222 Fairbanks Avenue. The parade leaves the parking lot and heads south on Lincoln Ave to 13th Street where we head East into the Stadium Parking Lot. You and your students are invited to be a part of the parade (make banners, wear red and white, etc) or just watch from the streets. If you have students participate they will all walk in one big K-8 group.

After the parade, participants may either leave or stay for the Holland High varsity football game that begins at 7:00. They will need to pay to enter the game. We ask that anyone participating in the parade be at DeVos Fieldhouse by 5:30, but may arrive earlier. Elementary and Middle School students must be with an adult to walk in the parade.

Lastly, we have had a noticeable increase in the number of students who are unsupervised by adults at football games. This has resulted in unruly behavior, horseplay, and injuries. As a reminder, football games are not a free babysitting service, students must be supervised at all times. Parents, please support us by not dropping off your student at the stadium without adult supervision. Thank you, Go Dutch!
