Remote Learning for Students with IEPs

UPDATE & CLARIFICATION: All special education students in grades 9-12 will shift to remote-learning for the week of April 12.

This letter serves to clarify Dr. Brian Davis’ district communication and provide additional information to families of students with IEPs.  As indicated by Governor Whitmer in her press conference earlier today:

“Right now our numbers are alarming, and we all have a role to play to get our state moving in the right direction again. That’s why I’m renewing my call on the federal government to surge additional vaccines to our state. And it’s why I’m urging high schools and youth sports to voluntarily suspend in-person activities for the next two weeks.”

The Ottawa County Department of Public Health further supported this request by also recommending a 14 day pause in in person learning at Holland High School.

Therefore, due to the urgent nature of this request, in-person learning for all special education students in grades 9-12 is also suspended for the week of April 12. Please plan for your child to participate remotely during that time.  The special education team will make a determination by Thursday, April 15 whether or not in-person learning can return the week of April 19.

Thank you for your support and patience as we work together in promoting health and safety in our school community.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Headley-Nordman

Associate Superintendent of Student Services
