Return to Learn Update

An update from Superintendent Brian Davis with details about the board-approved Return to Learn plan, upcoming Open House events, and a Covid Q&A email hotline.

Greetings HPS!

We are quickly approaching the start of the 2020-2021 school year. The anticipation is growing as we continue to prepare and welcome staff and students back to school.

On Monday, August 10, the HPS Board of Education unanimously approved our Return to Learn plan.

At this time, there are no more request considerations to change from face-face to online or vice versa. We have started a waiting list for those interested in doing so.

This week, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health released their Return to School Toolkit. This toolkit provides guidelines for how school districts will respond to symptoms, positive COVID-19 test results, and quarantine situations.

Don't forget the opportunity on August 20, from 9:00-4:30 to visit your child's school and for 6-12 students to walk their schedules. Please note that during this time, participants will be screened before entry, facial masks are required, the number of occupants in the building will be limited, and everyone will be asked to follow social distancing practices. Teaches will not be available during this time.

These same social distancing procedures will be followed at our Open House Dates on August 24 and 25. Please note the times by alphabet on our  website. This is a very quick meet and greet with your child's teacher as we are limited on the occupancy in the building. Virtual hugs and socially distanced high-fives please!

Elementary class lists will be posted at the end of the day on Wednesday, August 19. 6-12 schedules will be available in Infinite Campus as well. If you do not have an active Infinite Campus Parent Portal account, now is the time to do so. Please email Kmathe@hollandpublicschools.org for assistance.

COVID-19 Email hotline-Do you have a specific question regarding our return to school? If so, email your question to CovidQA@hollandpublicschools.org Please be sure to put in the Subject Line your Topic and grade level/building. It is our goal to provide a more efficient and effective way to respond to questions and to track those that are of greatest need to share with others.

Please don't forget to complete your online application for breakfast/lunch this year. A full tummy makes for better learning. A reminder that students will be eating lunch and breakfast in the classroom. Students may bring their own lunch to school but no deliveries please. Holland High School will be a closed campus.

Congrats to the members of the Holland High School Marching band for a successful completion of band camp. We appreciate all of the staff who kept our students engaged and learning. Great performance shared via Facebook Live with comments from across the globe!

As you may have heard, football has been postponed to the spring by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. We extend our empathy to the many students, families, and their fans who make this such a great sport. We hope to see you back on the turf in the spring.

The preparations for the start of the year have been incredible, and the support from our community even more so. Together, we will achieve and do great things.
