Meet Anna Clawson
An HPS Web Team Interview
Anna Clawson has worked for Holland Public Schools for 10 years. She is a proud graduate of Holland High School and Hope College. She earned her Master's of Social Work and Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University. Anna is currently working on her Doctorate on Educational Leadership. Prior to current position, Anna worked at Allegan County Youth Home as a Treatment Specialist, a School Social Worker at Holland High School, and as an Assistant Principal at Holland High School and Jefferson Elementary School. .
Along with Mrs. Clawson, many helpers keep Van Raalte running smoothly, including Diana Dominguez-Sandoval, her secretary.

What do you like best
about Van Raalte?
I love the diversity and sense of community.
Thinking back, what is one
of your favorite childhood school memories?
I love Tulip Time and
marching in the parade. As a child I thought it was exciting to
have friends and family watch me as I marched with my
friends.
What teacher in your life
had an influence on you? Why?
Mrs. Rybarcyzc and Mrs. Clark (both were at Holland High and Mrs.
Linda Clark is still there).
They both challenged me and set high expectations.
They nurtured, encouraged, and created a deep interest for
learning.
They taught me that I could do anything I set my mind to do, that
anything was possible, and that the only person who could stop me
was me!! It was a privledge to have had the opportunity to work
with them while I was at the high school.
What three words or
phrases would people who know you well probably use to describe
you?
I did a little survey and this is summary of what they said:
Energetic, hard working, committed, loyal, caring,
understanding.
What is something about
you that people would be surprised to know?
I was VERY shy as a child! To overcome my shyness my parents put me in baton twirling. By age 15 I was competing at the National level all over the United States.
What is the newest hobby or interest area you have picked up?
I don’t have a lot of spare time with two young children, grad school, and working full time. However, I LOVE to spend time with my children and husband. We love to swim, go to the beach, play outside, and most importantly, visit family and friends in Texas. I LOVE to shop and enjoy scrapbooking. I love to work out. My favorite workouts include kickboxing and running!
