Welcome to the 2015-16 HPS K-7 PTO!
What's "PTO"? We are a group of Parents and Teachers Organized as a legally recognized 501c3 non-profit that supports the four HPS K-7 buildings! Thhe goal of the PTO is to enhance the educational experience of students, support the staff and buildings, and encourage community between families and the schools. This is done through activities and such as:
* Popcorn Fridays * Holiday Crafts *
* Staff Appreciation * Potlucks & Socials *
* Carnivals * Scholastic Book Fairs *
* Reading Nights * Technology Nights *
* Math Nights * Field Trip Funding *
* Teacher Grants * School Supply Purchases *
RAISING MONEY: Fall & Spring Fundraisers
Fundraisers and the collection of Box Tops and other assorted labels is where the majority of our budget comes from. There are two major fundraisers that are run in the Fall and Spring in all for of the HPS K-7 Buildings. Typically, each purchase made during the fundraiser brings a 30-50% profit which goes into a collective account to be disbursed evenly through each of the four K-7's. This way, we give back to each school TOGETHER and evenly based on student count. Each K-7 building on it's own may raise additional funds to specifically support the unique needs and requests in that specific building. When it comes down to it- no building is left unsupported!
We encourage those in the HPS community to actively participate in fundraisers and activities that help to provide the financial support that PTO gives! It is crucial to the financial part of our support that we reach participation goals of at least 50% of our enrolled students...PTO is a non-profit organization. That means we do not get paid to do anything, and we do not receive funding from additional sources. If we do not raise money, then we cannot afford to give money back to our schools! Lucky for our PTO, Holland is a very understanding and generous community. PTO is able to go above and beyond the financial support requests each year to date...and we ask that you help ensure this trend continues by continuing to participate in the PTO fundraisers.
COLLECTING "FREE" MONEY: Box Tops & Labels
Another great way to participate is through the collection of "free" money producing Box Tops & Labels. What are these? Well, things many of us might be throwing away! Box Tops are found on many name brand groceries and household products- little red squares that are cut off package labels and turned into the K-7 buildings to be sent in a few times each school year...and redeemed for 10 cents (or more!) each label. This adds up to thousands of dollars a year...all from item packaging you would originally throw in the garbage. Labels is the short name we give to the other "free" money collectibles, like Aunt Millie's bread bag barcodes, Spartan Brand UPC codes, and Tyson brand labels. Check out the official Box Tops for Education website here.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED WITH PTO: In a K-7 or at an Executive Level
Each of the four HPS K-7 buildings (West, Jefferson, Heights, and East) has a PTO group that will meet monthly to discuss business and plan events. Parents and staff are invited to attend and participate in these monthly building PTO meetings. Each PTO building group is always looking for individuals interested in volunteering for events and taking leadership roles as a core or chair holding PTO member. You pick how involved to get- start by attending Family Night events or participating in Fundraisers, consider volunteering to help at an event or two, pick an event committee to join, hold a chair position on a building PTO board, or eventually move up into an executive level position.
There is a page for each HPS K-7 PTO where you can find links to the individual PTO's and a list of upcoming events and special notes. The easiest way to get involved with PTO is to contact the PTO Vice-President in whichever HPS K-7 building you are associated with!
Just a reminder, per HPS district policy, and for the safety of our students, all interested volunteers will need to fill out and turn in an HPS Volunteer form found prior to volunteering for events and activities. These volunteer forms are available in all K-7 building offices. You can also print the forms through these links: Spanish Volunteer Form and English Volunteer Form
The articles and information on the PTO sections of this website are intended to help you find updates, event notices, meeting minutes, and other important PTO information in a quick manner. Updates are scheduled for Saturday mornings, so check back regularly! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding PTO, we welcome communication and feedback. For more information, please contact the PTO Vice-President at the building you are associated with or the PTO President via the links below.
Looking forward to another great year with the HPS community,
