Teacher wins "My Favorite Teacher" contest
Barnes & Noble, the largest retail bookseller in the United States, hostes a contest known as "My Favorite Teacher" each year, giving students in middle and high school the oppurtunity to nonminate their favorite teacher by writing an essay, poem, or a thank-you letter on how they have influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire them. Jefferson seventh grader Robert Maner entered this year's contest by submitting an essay about his favorite teacher, Mrs. Lisa Brenton, and was named this year's local winner of the contest.
On April 14, Barnes & Noble (Felch St. Plaza) Assistant Store Manager Jeni Juarez awarded Robert and Mrs. Brenton with certificates of recognition.
Barnes & Noble will be submitting Robert's essay to their Regional Vice President for consideration of their Regional Prize (a $500 B&N gift card) and then ultimately, the National Teacher of the Year award. The winner of the national honor would receive $5,000 and a special recognition ceremony, as well as the winner's school receiving $5,000.
