Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year!
My name is Roberto R. Medellin - though I am more regularly known as "Bob".
I very proud to say that I have been working for HPS for 28 years. I have worked at all levels in the district - ranging from Kindergarten at Lincoln Elementary (my first 6 years) to Holland High School - Co-Teaching Chemistry and Biology Extended (the previous 2 years). While most of my career was spent as a Middle School Counselor (8 years at East Middle School and 2 years at West Middle School), I have to say my most interesting stint was that of Reproductive Health Teacher for both 5th grade (1 year) and 7th grade students (2 years). In both cases, my students were very appropriate and respectful and I was very proud to be able to instruct them during this "delicate" time of their lives. I have also worked at Van Raalte Elementary- Fifth grade (6 years), East Middle School - ESL teacher (1 year), Longfellow 4-5 building - Fourth grade (1 year) and Harrington K-3 building - Special Ed. (1 year). I am a high school student council advisor, have been a middle school student council advisor and Calling All Colors student advisor. Hablo espanol tambien. Wheeww!
I am a graduate of Holland High 'Class of '78. I attended Central Michigan University where I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Education, specifically Special Education for the Cognitively Impaired K-12. I also have certification to teach at the K-5 level and an endorsement to teach Bi-lingual Education K-9. I earned a Master's in Counseling K-12 through Michigan State University. I am hoping to work on becoming highly qualified and certified in high school social studies.
I have two children - both graduates of Holland High - Taylor Medellin Class of '08 (attending Grand valley State University) and Jordan Medellin Class of '11 (attending Michigan State University). I am married to the famous and fabulous Laura Medellin who also teaches for Holland Public Schools. She is currently teaching 2nd Grade at Jefferson K-7.
Academic and Behavior Interventionist
This year as an, ABI, I will be teaching a class at Holland High School - Teen Choices - an 8th grade elective class. I will also have an after school program for students needing FAPE services. In addition to those responsibilities, I will also be working and teaching 6th and 7th grade students in all the K-7 buildings.
I look forward to working with all these students, parents and HPS staff members. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at my e-mail address: rmedelli@hollandpublicschools.org
and as always... GO DUTCH!
