Welcome to Mark Knopf's web page
(This web page is under development.)
Hello. I'm Mark Knopf and this is my 23rd year teaching in Holland Public Schools. I've taught all grade levels from 7th to Seniors and I always enjoy working with our students. I look forward to another fabulous year of learning and fun with the kids!
In U.S. History - 8th Grade: We begin at the French and Indian War and continue through to the Early 1900's/Progressive Era. This is in preparation for the second half of the standard U.S. History curriculum which most students will take as Sophomores and begins at the Progressive Era and runs through the present time. Those students signed up for the Advanced Placement U.S. History course (next year) will blanket all of U.S. History in a class set up very much like an introduction course at a college or university, which upon successful completion results in college credit.
LOOKING AHEAD (October): Parents will want to note that we are finishing the Revolutionary War and heading toward writing the U.S. Constitution and trying out our new government under our first President of the United States George Washington.
In American Government - 11th and 12th grades: We will be covering the ancient history of types of government through the establishment and operation of all three branches of American Representative Democracy. This is a single trimester course, so it moves very quickly.
LOOKING AHEAD (October-November): We are currently ending our unit on the Bill of Rights and moving toward specific chapters on the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches - Chapters, 11, 13, and 15 respectively. This course will be completed at Thanksgiving Break, so there are just a few weeks left.
