Looking Ahead: May 5 - 12

Froyo Champions!!

Whew, we worked hard for this win! We have won the Orange Leaf Spirit Challenge for the second year in a row! We have an outstanding community at West and owe all the thanks to you!! It  must also be noted that East did a phenomenal job and has also earned money for their goal! The community of HPS really showed their strength and dedication to our kids at both schools during this challenge.

Our kids will be receiving a pajama day, an extra 30 minutes of recess and popsicle party and our staff will receive another jean day!! We were able to raise over $2,000 for new playground equipment and gaga pits! Thank you for your support!

Market Day

4th grade Market Day is just a few short weeks away so please mark the date of May 24 on your calendar and plan to support our hard working entrepreneurs. They have spent many weeks brainstorming, making prototypes, and marketing and testing their product creations. More information will come home about how your student will be able to shop the market and how you can also support the students by shopping. Please note that we ask that you send small bills to school with your student to shop with. $1’s and quarters work wonderfully!

Remember the Holland Public Schools Annual Tulip Time Exhibit opens Thursday, May 5! View the exhibit between 3:15 and 6:00 during the week of Tulip Time. You will not want to miss the many extraordinary pieces that will be showcased this year! Please come and support our HPS students!

Second Grade to DeGraaf

The second grade classes enjoyed their field trip to DeGraaf Nature center. They were all engaged in a shared writing project about plants. They are combing science with writing and this cross-curricular project helps them to learn more deeply and to make more connections.  A special "shout out" to PTO for their support in paying for this experience.  The students learned a lot and had fun, too!

 A Note from the Library

The end of the school year is quickly approaching. Please return all Library books or pay the lost or damage fees. Check your child’s backpack for an overdue, lost or damage note from the Library. Please help your child be responsible and search for the lost book. Can’t find the book? Look under the beds, in the closet, under the couch, behind the bookshelf. Think of the craziest place in the house and then look there. If the book has a spine label and a barcode, it probably belongs to the Library. Good Luck!
