Information for Non-Testing Students

Dear HHS/HEC/HVRT Seniors & Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

We are very excited to offer special programming for many of our non-testing students on April 11th & 12th! You’ll find the details organized below. We’re looking forward to a great day of learning and collaboration! Be reminded, attendance is required on both days.


Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Who? HHS/HEC/HVRT  Seniors* 
When? 8:00am-12:30pm
Where? GVSU Meijer, 515 S. Waverly, Holland
 

Program Description
This “Senior Experience” will include interactive, high-interest workshops, facilitated by GVSU staff, to help you prepare for life after high school!  Sessions will include College Life, Work Life, Money Management, a Sample College Class, and Vision Boarding to help you plan for your future.  The day will include cool prizes and raffles too!  We can’t wait!


Transportation & Food Service
You may transport yourself to GVSU Meijer Campus (Holland Location), as there will be plenty of on-site parking.  If you require HPS transportation, busses will leave HHS at 7:45am.  A HPS snack breakfast will be provided at GVSU. You’ll be dismissed at 12:30pm, and lunch is on your own.  If you require return transportation home, the bus will pick up at 1:15pm. 

*Careerline Tech Center or Early College students:  You are required to attend your normal programming in the morning, and will be dismissed after CTC/EC classes.

Who? HHS/HEC Seniors*
When? 8:00am-12:30pm
Where? GVSU Meijer Campus, 515 S. Waverly, Holland

Program Description
This special event will include a “Senior Workshop,” facilitated by the “be nice” organization. This collaborative session will empower you to reflect on mental health and self-care. You’ll be asked to reflect on how you think, act, and feel, while considering how you can be proactive to protect yourself and others.

Transportation & Food Service
See above (same as April 11, 2017)

*Careerline Tech Center or Early College students:  You are required to attend your normal programming in the morning, and will be dismissed after CTC/EC classes.

Who? HHS/HEC/HVRT 10th Grade
When? 8:00am-1:30pm    Where? Holland Early College, 45 E. 25th St

Program Description
This special program will include a workshop titled “Call to Warriors,” facilitated by Calvin Terrell.  This experience will engage students in community building through the use of kinesthetic activities, music, and group discussions designed to provoke deep introspection regarding the way we choose to interact with others.  Concepts such as bullying/violence prevention, prejudices, racism, and respect for global diversity are addressed.  Students will be challenged in a meaningful experience of internal reflection to determine are they part of these problems or taking action toward collaboration and solutions.  

Transporation

  • If you ride the bus
    1. Stay on your regular bus and you’ll be transported to and from HEC 
  • If you walk or are dropped off
    1. Report directly to HEC
      (or)
    2. Report to HHS and a bus will transport you to and from HEC 
      1. Busses will depart from the back loop at 7:45am. 
      2. Dismissal will be at 1:30pm with a normal bus run home. 


Food Service
Regular HPS breakfast will be served at HEC from 7:30-8:00, and a snack will be provided at 11:30am.

M-Step Testing

This is the third year we will be giving M-STEP Tests, the achievement assessments required by the State of Michigan for third through eighth grade students. 9th and 10th grade students will be administered the PSAT. 11th grade students will be administered the SAT, WorkKeys, and M-STEP. . . .
