Hello!  I'm Kim RosenauWelcome to 6th Grade English Language Arts at Holland Heights!  This is my 16th year teaching and it is as exciting as ever!  I enjoy teaching part time at this stage of my career, because it allows me to be home with my 4 year old and active in my children's school.  My two older children are in 3rd and 6th grade this year.  Our family enjoys kayak rides, spending time at the beach, and trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  One interesting fact about our family is that all of our first names start with the letter, K!  I love to write and read and have fun sharing those joys with my students.

Behavior Expectations

Students are expected to be safe, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn & work.

Consequences to not following these expectations will be (1) a reminder, (2) a warning, and (3) a behavior referral, which will result in a parent contact and usually a lunch detention.  Three minor behavior referrals will equal one major.

In order to be successful, there are a few things students must bring to class.  They must always have 2 sharpened pencils or a pen to write with, their planner which the school provides, their student ID, and a folder or binder to take work back and forth from home.

6th Grade Communication Arts:  We will learn many strategies over the course of the year to become effective readers of literature and informational text.  We will use Rebecca Sitton Spelling, sentence writing strategies, and a writing workshop model to enhance writing.

LOOKING AHEAD (September):  Parents will want to note that we will start the year by writing a narrative piece on the first day of school.  We will come back to that piece as we work on narrative writing.  The first 2 weeks of school will focus on a study of the language used in formal tests.

We Have A Class Website: Here is link where I post most of my information for parents. It will be updated on a regular basis.  You will find due dates for assignments there and strategies students are being taught and expected to use.  Please note that it takes you away from our  HPS website. If you have difficulty viewing or accessing the information as it's posted here, please let me know right away.
