Lara Parent 4th Grade Teacher

Welcome! I'm glad you're here.

As a 4th grade teacher I have one of the best jobs in the world! Each day, I get to work with incredibly bright and dynamic kids as they become better learners, readers, writers and thinkers. Kids falling in love with books, having the light bulb go off when they figure out a math concept, their excitement in social studies or science as they make new discoveries are all exciting moments. It is especially wonderful to sit beside a child and listen to the excitement in their voice as they predict, wonder, ask questions, and connect to the books they are reading or the lessons they are learning.

LOOKING AHEAD (December):  This month we are working hard on our HUH and our AHA moments as we continue to dig deeper into texts to understand the plot of the story, character's feelings and the big idea. We are also learning more about POV (Point of View) and the different types of narration: 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person. We are getting ready to revise and publish our Personal Narratives in writing. In math we are simultaneously working on time as we begin our multiplication of larger numbers unit. Dear families, please, please continue to work with your child on their multiplication facts using flash cards, quizzing them on the fly, or using Internet or other games. At this point in the year your child should be on the 7s or 8s. We are continuing our unit in: "What Is Social Studies?" as we focus on Economics. Please check our Google calendar on the site below for upcoming events and homework reminders. We will get our candy bars this week for our ski trip fundraiser as well.

We have a classroom site:  *Please also visit our classroom page to get daily classroom updates and take a peek into what your child is doing in 4th grade and to learn about the great resources on the web. I Heart Learning is our classroom site: www.iheartlearning.org . Note that it takes you away from our  HPS website. I think you'll find this interesting and useful.  If you have difficulty viewing or accessing the information as it's posted here, please let me know right away.

Please also visit my web site: Happy Reader for great book recommendations, cool sites for kids and parents, fun stuff, and learning games!

Books can be wonderfully dangerous. When I get a great one in my hands, it's hard to tear myself away from it. When I'm not on some adventure inside of a book, I am usually hanging out with my husband and dog (both below)––typically with a camera in my hands.

I have always loved looking at the world around me and capturing ideas, moments, and beauty with a camera. When I was 9, I took my first portraits (of classmates) in a photography class that was offered at my elementary school. That original spark for photographing people and life's moments has stayed with me all of these years. Over the years, I have been fortunate to photograph kids, friends and families, weddings and to show my work in galleries and museums (below) locally and nationally. http://laraparentphotography.blogspot.com

And...if I can't sleep and am up really, really late, sometimes I make movies or write or create art.
