My name is Merri Martens and I am one of the art teachers at East and Holland Heights. I currently teach art to middle school students in addition to one 5th grade class at East, Mrs. Ettinger and Holland-Anderson. Students in grades 6 and 7 have art every day for one semester, the 6th graders first semester and the 7th graders second semester. Middle school students will work with a variety of materials as we study different concepts, artists, and cultural/historical periods. Projects usually last approximately one week which gives students the opportunity to go into more depth and detail than they did during their elementary experiences. Throughout the semester, it is my hope that students will increase their knowledge about the visual art and improve their artistic skills.
