Bethany Van Oss

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Bethany Van Oss and I am the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade band director for Holland Public Schools. I am also the assistant band director for the Holland High School Marching Dutchmen. In addition, new this year, I am teaching 4th grade elementary music at four of the district’s K-7 schools as well as one 3rd grade elementary music class at Holland Heights and an SXI music class of wonderful students at East!

This will be my 14th year teaching band for Holland Public Schools and I am incredibly excited to see the familiar faces of my 6th and 7th grade band students as well as the new faces that will be joining the HPS band family, as recruitment for 5th grade band is already underway! In addition, I am privileged to, once again, have the opportunity to work and collaborate with Holland Public Schools' Director of Bands, Mr. Demetrius White. He brings enthusiasm and a refreshing energy to the Holland High School Bands and I am pleased to call him my friend and colleague!

We have the overarching goal of, together, creating a tight-knit HPS band family between the middle and high school students. As a result, I am overjoyed to report that we will be continuing the tradition started last school year of all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band members having the awesome and uniquely special experience of being able to perform with the 9th-12th grade HHS Marching Dutchmen at Middle School Band Night! This will take place at the home Varsity Football Game at the Ray and Sue Smith Stadium on Friday, September 9th, 2016! Mr. White and I are looking forward to continuing our collaboration in order to continue growing the HPS band family and making it a hallmark band program that HPS staff, administration, the community, parents, and most importantly, students, can be proud of! GO DUTCH
