Holland Public Schools

Looking Ahead: Feb. 27 - March 3

Conferences- All K-5 students should have brought home a conference scheduling form on Thursday. Please be sure to turn these in as soon as possible. A group of teachers will be meeting after school on Tuesday to schedule conferences based on your requests. If you have not received a form please contact your child’s teacher or the East front office. Confirmations on when your conference(s) are scheduled should be coming home by the end of the week.
Conference Schedule-
3/9- 3:30-6:30
3/15- 5:00-8:00
3/16- 12:00- 3:00
K-5 students will have a scheduled time. 6th and 7th grade students can come at anytime during the times above to meet with the teachers in the cafeteria.

February Food Frenzy- What a successful food drive at East to restock our food pantry and support East families. In three weeks our students and families donated 169 bags of food. The middle school students donated this most this week with 28.5 bags!

Kindergarten Information Night-  Thursday, March 2nd from 6:00-7:00 at the district administration building.

Arcade Claw Machine- If you know of a working and reasonably priced Claw Arcade game, please send the information to Mr. Cassidy. East is looking into putting one in the office as an incentive for reading, positive behavior, and/or attendance.

Reading Counts At East-
If students reach 25 points each month (or the specific reading goal for K-1) they will earn the opportunity to take part in a reading celebration! February will be another ice cream party! Tuesday marks the end of the month. We hope to have rewards ready for students by Friday.

Please encourage your child to continue reading and to take the Reading Counts quizzes online. Each month prizes will be given to students who reach their goals or different milestones of 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 points. Ridge Point Church has chosen East to be part of its Reach and Restore campaign. They are a huge part of our new reading incentive program and will be working with East to provide many more opportunities for students and staff. Keep asking your child how many points they have earned this month. Stay tuned for more details.

Computer Lab Open- The computer lab will be open from 7:30-8:00 on Wednesdays for 2nd-5th grade students who would like to take Reading Counts Quizzes.

Recruit and Refer- We are really proud of our students and teachers at East. This is the time of year where people start thinking about where to send their Kindergarten student for the next year. If you know of someone with a child who will be in Kindergarten next year, please have them get in touch with the East office and set up a time to come tour the school and meet with Mr. Cassidy.

Video Contest - East 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students have an opportunity to make a short video (1 minute or less) about what makes East great. Students are recommended to be part of teams of 2-4. A panel of teachers and staff members at East will choose the top few to place on the school’s Facebook page. The team’s video which receives the most “likes” will receive $100 in Gift Cards.

Box Tops - Please send collect and send in Box Tops for Education. This is an Easy way to raise money for our school. Ask friends and relatives to collect them as well. There is a friendly competition between classes on who can raise the most.

Volunteering - Please be sure to turn in your volunteer form as soon as possible and check with your child’s teacher about ways that you can get involved and help. This is especially important with some of the different activities coming up in the classroom. We would still like to have volunteers to help in the computer lab from 7:30-8:00 on MondayTuesdayThursday, and Friday so students can come in to read or take Reading Counts tests.
Shout Outs - Did you know that every week Mr. Cassidy sends out an email to staff called “The Holla”? It is an accumulation of positive notes provided to him about our staff from staff, parents, and community members. If you have something positive that you would like to share, please send them to Mr. Cassidy at ncassidy@hollandpublicschools.org
